Investing in Ourselves: Giving and Fund
Raising in Asia Series
had its origin in the International Conference on Supporting
the Nonprofit Sector in Asia, sponsored by the Asia Pacific
Philanthropy Consortium (APPC) in January 1998.
Investing in Ourselves - Giving and Funda Raising in Asia
had four principal objectives:
- to build awareness of
successful methods of fundraising employed by Asian NGOs
and to identify innovative best practices
- to increase
understanding of the need for transparency and
accountability among Asian NGOs of they are to be
successful in fundraising
- to increase the capacity
of Asian NGOs to mobilize resources
- to establish benchmarks
against which to measure the nature and scope of
philanthropic giving in selected countries
The study produced 112 case
studies of successful local fundraising in seven countries
(Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines,
Thailand) and household level surveys of charitable giving
in four of these countries (India, Indonesia, Philippines
and Thailand).
