The Centre for Bhutan Studies is an
autonomous research institute dedicated towards promoting
research and scholarship on Bhutan. It was established in 1999
at the highest levels of the Bhutan government. It is governed
by the Council for the Centre of Bhutan Studies, which is
chaired by the Bhutan Foreign Minister. It is located in Thimphu,
Bhutan
The Centre promotes scholarship on Bhutan through its
publications, hosting conferences and seminars, organizing
workshops and lecture series. Other organisations and
institutions both within and outside the country also
collaborate in these activities.
A major part of the Centre’s work is publishing, both in English
and in Dzongkha. Asia-Studies Full-Text carries the English
language Journal of Bhutan Studies and the Centre’s series of
Monographs.
The Journal of Bhutan Studies is one of the world’s most
respected sources on Bhutan studies. Content is from scholars at
major universities around the world, as well from Bhutan
scholars and experts. Bhutan coverage is extensive, encompassing
the social sciences, politics, international affairs,
government, the economy, history, culture, and the humanities.
